The Natural History Center is committed to working toward a goal of
economic, environmental, and social sustainability. We take this responsibility
seriously, constantly striving to improve by:
- Remaining open year-round, serving as a resource for residents and
contributing toward improving the economic vitality of Bar Harbor as a
year-round community.
- Reducing our carbon footprint in numerous ways, including using the
free Island Explorer bus service during the summer as our primary mode
of transportation for regularly scheduled programs.
- Selling locally made, fair trade, and wildlife-friendly products whenever
feasible.
- Scheduling most programs for our local environs.
- Adhering to the principle of reduce, reuse, recycle.
