Sustainability....
The Natural History Center is committed to working toward a goal of
economic, environmental, and social sustainability. We take this responsibility
seriously, constantly striving to improve by:

  • Remaining open year-round, serving as a resource for residents and
    contributing toward improving the economic vitality of Bar Harbor as a
    year-round community.

  • Reducing our carbon footprint in numerous ways, including using the
    free Island Explorer bus service during the summer as our primary mode
    of transportation for regularly scheduled programs.

  • Selling locally made, fair trade, and wildlife-friendly products whenever
    feasible.

  • Scheduling most programs for our local environs.

  • Adhering to the principle of reduce, reuse, recycle.
